Sunday 25 October 2015

I think we are all making the most of any sunshine as winter is looming.....we have had some lovely days this week and I spent most of Tuesday dog walking, and then meeting a friend in the beach cafe.  Amazingly I have managed to complete another scarf which has now gone off to an exhibition.....I'm not quite sure how I managed that, because I have been out and about a lot......maybe I have been weaving in my sleep!!?? Had two brilliant textiley (if there's such a word) days.  One at the Lewes exhibition and the other at my Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers. I just love interacting with other like-minded people, who get incredibly excited looking at skeins of wool.....oh well, maybe we're all crazy, but we're certainly happy!!  Clocks have now been turned back and it got dark so early tonight.  I know it happens every year, but every year I am surprised!  Have a good week x

Sunday 18 October 2015

I seem to have started selling, almost by default!  This blue scarf has sold (only finished today!), three more sold a couple of weeks ago, and the remaining two, pictured here, are ready to go into an exhibition next weekend.  I am going to get my head around re-opening my Etsy shop......watch this space......Its been a lovely autumn week, so I thought I'd share some pictures of foliage on today's walk.  Dear old Jasmine is completely obsessed with her ball so it is very rare that I get a photo of her without it!  Still, it keeps her from going off on a chase.....she is nearly 9 years old and still hasn't worked out that she never catches anything....!! I am now looking ahead to this coming week, and to my delight I realise that on 23/4th it's the bi-annual exhibition in Lewes of the Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.  If you are in the Sussex area, I recommend it ...loads of woolly things, books, traders and exhibit..fantastic. Have a good week everybody - I'm sure I will x

Monday 12 October 2015

Another week flown by and another scarf/wrap now hanging out to dry.  I'm always mildly disappointed when I finish a piece, because I so enjoy the weaving....and it now means I have to warp up again before I can weave!!  Never mind, I also love the spinning.  As you can see I had the help of my two faithful friends when I had some spinning time in my shed.  We really have had some gorgeous weather recently and dog walking on the beach is a real pleasure.  On Saturday I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally.  As ever, it was a brilliant day.  Lots of inspiration and great to chat to like-minded people.  I couldn't resist treating myself to the felted flowers, made by people in Nepal, which are now adorning my art hut.  I can't believe that I only bought my loom in January....I am still obsessed and my enthusiasm show no signs of waning.  I now have a small stock of weavings, which are going into a small exhibition at the end of the month.  My aim to start selling in January still stands - so I had better crack on.  I am wondering about doing another coat soon...? Hope you all have a good, creative and peaceful week x

Sunday 4 October 2015

I've had a productive week, and once again have been making the most of the sunshine.  I think today may be the last real day of summer -  so I have  been making the most of it, and have been outside all day.  Walking on the downs, painting in my little  art shed, and down on the beach.  As you can see, I have been dyeing as well.  I needed more dyed silk warp to start my latest scarf.  I need to complete this in a couple of weeks because I am putting three pieces in a local textile exhibition (The Oxmarket in Chichester at the end of October).  I am busy planning my thoughts re. selling in January.  Sometimes I think I must delude myself......!!  Weaving, spinning and dyeing takes time and there's no way I'll probably ever end up with a large stock...hey, ho!  Keeps me happy just to think about it.  I have people wanting me to weave coats (!!) as well as scarves.  I do like a challenge, but as I always say, I don't take commissions, mainly because I feel stressed by having to produce something specific.  I like the freedom to be spontaneous.  If people like what I do  then fine.  If they don't, that's also fine.  No pressure on anyone.  Have a good week x
