I'm not normally fascinated by gravestones, but I must say I was intrigued by this one.  I came across it yesterday while I was out dog walking.  I can't make out whether the marks are a decaying design or whether they are completely natural.   I guess it must be lichen at the bottom. Has anyone any ideas?  Whatever, I thought what an amazing source of inspiration......

  1. We have the old church graveyard in Howick and most of the older ones are covered in lichen, same colours as the headstone in your photographs. The rusty colour doesn't seem to be as prevalent the green, grey or cream. We also get heaps of "old mans' beard on our trees here some branches become absolutely smothered!
